What to Wear - The First Date

At the request of some my single friends on the dating scene, this post is devoted to what to wear on a first date. It is a nervous enough occasion to be on a date with someone that you really like, without the stress of worrying if you look good. I would suggest smart casual as a general rule. This means no ties or cufflinks and no baggy jeans or battered sneakers. The below links are a mixture of some smart and some more casual, street looks that will have you looking great for that all important first date.

Premium blue Cobeli blazer (£50) and blue long sleeved Oxford shirt (£30) both from topman.com

A blazer is as smart as it should get unless the dress code calls for more.

Lyndhurst Jumper in Jay Blue from John Smedley (£60) available at http://www.johnsmedley.com/uk/

A jumper like this one is the definition of smart casual.

Felted flannel jacket from Dolce and Gabbana (£580) at http://www.matchesfashion.com

Jiro Cannon Chinos (£85), Saints Short Sleeve Polo (£50) and Geno Long Sleeve Shirt (£75) all from All Saints at http://www.allsaints.com

New season stock from All Saints have some great looks for date night.

Army green measure T shirt (£60) and Max Raw Denim Jeans (£150) both from Acne available at http://www.oki-ni.com

T shirts should be fitted but not tight. Even if you have great muscles, you should avoid T shirts that look as if they are about to rip. Denim should be smart - slim, straight and dark.

Grenson Stanley Leather Wingtip Brogues (£200) from mrporter.com

Ask The Missus Sahara Desert Boots in Black Nubuck (£59.99) from http://www.office.co.uk

Creative Recreation Mens Kaplan White Mesh Trainers (£59.00) from www.coggles.com

Women are obsessed with shoes. Whether you choose brogues, desert boots or sneakers make sure they are clean.

Uniform Wares 250 Series Watch (£390) from mrporter.com

J Brand Kane Worn-In Straight Fit Denim Jeans (£175) from mrporter.com

Selected Bomber Jacket with Leather Sleeves (£115) and Calvin Klein metallic trunks (£23.00) both from http://www.asos.com/Men/

Sky blue luxury boxer shorts (£26) from Burtonwode at http://burtonwode.com

Decent underwear is a must. Because you never know.

Black Venture Woven Bracelet (£195) from Links of London at www.linksoflondon.com

Any of the above looks will create a good impression. They are all stylish and low maintenance looks that are not too try hard. All clothes should fit well and not be too tight or uncomfortable. Have a shower. Put on a decent fragrance. Make sure your flies are done up. Good luck.
