Listen - Yeezus by Kanye West

In the same week that Kanye West welcomed his first child, he releases his sixth studio album. Entitled "Yeezus" (a self proclaimed nickname, hyprid of Yeezy and Jesus) this album it is a powerful record. On first listen it sounds like a mash up between earlier albums particularly the superb Cruel Summer and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, but more stripped back. Loud, jarring electro beats, random screams and grinding synths sound messy and unimpressive at first, but the more you listen to West's multi-layered lyrics which are self deprecating and self loving in equal measure, the more hooked you are. This album shows any doubters that Kanye is a leader in the hip hop arena, and much more than E! TV Sunday night fodder. The use of diverse producers - Daft Punk and Rick Rubin has allowed a growth in style and personality. Album stand outs for me are Black Skinhead, I Am God and New Slaves.
